RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 finalist Bosco is the subject of a new Portrait of a Queen YouTube episode focused on her experience undergoing facial feminization surgery. Bosco came out as trans last year.

Drag Race‘s Bosco Undergoes Facial Feminization Surgery

The new Portrait of a Queen episode, titled “Face of Bosco,” premiered Thursday on the RuPaul’s Drag Race YouTube channel. It documents Bosco’s experience preparing for and undergoing the surgery, and then recovering at home.

“This surgery is gonna allow me to move through the world in places and in situations where people don’t know anything about me,” Bosco says in the documentary, “and they’ll be able to view me the way that I want to be viewed. And that’s really, really important to me.”

The episode shows Bosco talking to her doctor about what the surgery will entail. There are also a few clips of the surgery itself, before she heads home with her boyfriend to recover.

Bosco told Cosmopolitan that the documentary team was “kind and gentle during a really stressful time of my life,” although she said it was also “extremely challenging” to film parts of the experience.

What Happened After the Surgery?

The end of the documentary skips to six weeks after the surgery, as Bosco prepares for her face reveal party. She shares that she’s still healing, but that things have already changed for her when she goes out in public.

“It’s honestly crazy how different people interact with me outside now,” she explains. “People are a lot nicer to me in day-to-day interactions … A lot more smiles, a lot more polite … Weird little social cues have completely switched that I wasn’t even plugged into before.”

The video shows Bosco revealing her post-surgery face at her party by removing several masks on stage. She ends the documentary by saying the procedure has “made everything so much richer” for her.
